Introduction
Cypermethrin is a widely used synthetic pyrethroid insecticide applied on a large scale in agriculture for the effective control of a broad spectrum of insect pests.
What is Cypermethrin?
Cypermethrin is a non-systemic insecticide with contact and stomach action, also exhibiting anti-feeding effects. It acts by disrupting the nervous system of insects, leading to paralysis and death. Due to its rapid knockdown effect and high efficacy, cypermethrin is among the most commonly used insecticides in agricultural pest management, particularly in crops such as apple and cotton.
Target Pests and Application Rates
Crop Target Pest Application Rate
Apple Codling moth (Cydia pomonella) 75 ml per 1,000 liters of water
Cotton Aphids 175 ml per hectare
⚠️ Use strictly according to the recommended rates. Proper application responsibility lies with the user.
Timing of Application
The application timing varies depending on the crop and target pest. In general, cypermethrin is most effective when applied at the early stages of pest development, when pest populations begin to increase. Always follow the label instructions.
Uses in Other Countries
According to international references, cypermethrin is also used to control a wide range of pests, including:
Cabbage stem weevil
Cabbage white butterfly
Diamondback moth
Flea beetles in brassicas
Aphids in wheat and barley
Weevils and caterpillars in legumes
Pollen beetles and stem weevils in rapeseed
Compatibility and Tank Mixing
Cypermethrin is compatible with many insecticides and fungicides, except alkaline compounds. Before mixing with other agrochemicals, a jar compatibility test is recommended. Always consult plant protection experts before tank mixing.
Mode of Action
Cypermethrin acts by blocking sodium channels in the insect nervous system, causing prolonged nerve excitation. This results in abnormal nerve impulses, muscle paralysis, loss of mobility, and death within a few hours after exposure.
Toxicological Classification
Acute oral LD₅₀ (male rats, a.i.): 287–500 mg/kg
WHO Hazard Class: II (Moderately hazardous)
Effects on Bees and Aquatic Life
Cypermethrin is highly toxic to bees and extremely dangerous to fish and aquatic organisms.
Do not apply during flowering or pollination periods
Avoid application near rivers, ponds, or water bodies
Observe all environmental safety precautions
Antidote
There is no specific antidote for cypermethrin poisoning. Treatment is symptomatic. In severe cases involving convulsions or tremors, diazepam is recommended. In case of poisoning, seek medical attention immediately and present the product label.
Safety Precautions During Application
Wear protective clothing, gloves, boots, mask, goggles, and head cover
Do not smoke while spraying
Wash work clothes and take a shower after application
Never dispose of leftover pesticide into the environment or water sources

Directions for Use
Select and calibrate a suitable sprayer
Fill the sprayer tank halfway with clean water
Pre-mix the recommended amount of cypermethrin in a separate container
Add the mixture slowly to the tank while stirring
Top up with water to the desired volume
Use the prepared solution within a few hours
Ensure uniform coverage during spraying
Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI)
Apple and Cotton: 21 days
Application Management
Do not spray stressed plants (cold, drought, nutrient deficiency)
Avoid application during high temperatures or strong winds
Effectiveness depends on thorough spray coverage
Use clean, non-saline water
Rotate with insecticides from different chemical groups to prevent resistance development
